WHO AM I?

Sad but true Ive just ticked over 1/2 a century and have lived in my local Sth Auckland area all my life. Yep boring but all my family are here and I would have it no other way. Annie and I live in a house from the 1920’s and it has been restored from top to bottom. Some would say that there’s nothing left to do on it but there’s always something that annoys ya. I’m a bit of fussy bugger and like things neat and tidy. Mind you a tidy mess is OK.

My 1st love, ooops 2nd is WWII aeroplanes. The likes of a V12 Merlin in full noise just gets me going. There’s definitely no “Substitute for Cubic Inches” when it comes to the slow revving aero engines. For those that haven’t attended a Warbirds over Wanaka air show well??? But for me it just a blast of what dedication, time, craftsmanship of old and truck loads of money can do. Check out - NZ Warbirds

Next up are old cars and those where the builder has spent the time crafting his dream machine. That’s the main reason why I like my kit Cobra. It resembles a Cobra but it's just a little different from the other guys. Of the NZ Cobra’s I’ve seen there is no two alike as they all have their wee differences. I just enjoy looking over someone’s toy and appreciating the work they have done to get their project on the road. To those that run show cars and actually use them I take may hat off to you.

Why am I the Scribe for the Cobra Club of Akl?
Well I had owned my Cobra for a year or two and yes it was fun in those early days, giving it a pounding on the local roads, but that gets a bit boring after awhile. When Mark B and I teamed up to try a 2nd attempt to form a Cobra Club in Auckland it was the start of many new and lasting friendships for me. That first run up the north-western motorway with four other cobs in a line had me buzzing for weeks. The need of a repeat was an absolute must. As my legs don’t work too well due to a spinal injury in 95, my life as a very physical active person was no longer. One window closed but many opened as I learnt new job skills (computer) for a new life at work. These new skills enabled me to become organised in setting the scene for other peoples work activities and recording the results. Some may say boring as shite but I get a lot of enjoyment out of belonging to a successful team and an extension of that team is our Cob club that has been built from the ground up in a short space of time.

Cheers for now

PS: I have always enjoyed music and for the last 6 years an Irish band "The McSweeney Brothers" has been very much in my ear. In August 2005, I made the decision to learn how to play the guitar so to put to bed the twenty year plus regret for not sticking it out as a young boy. Yes motorbikes and go-karts where just too greater an attraction in those early days. I'm told its 30% talent and 70% practice to learn a musical instrument. Currently the old adage rings true, "You can't teach old dogs new tricks".
